Synopsis

Ojibway artist Jennifer Morrisseau is the next big thing in the contemporary art world, but 21 year old Jen’s more interested in getting away for a snowy weekend in the mountains at her uncle’s old hunting cabin with her tight-knit group of friends: wealthy socialite Nicole Riley, quantum physics protégé Duncan Mawhinney, Joe and Kim Dawson, offspring of the former Minister of Indian Affairs and Benjamin Ratner, the son of a real estate mogul.

The group heads off to Jen’s place, not far from an abandoned ski hill. On the way they come across an inverted animal carcass. They immediately feel they are being watched. What they don’t know is that they have arrived at a spiritually charged location and it is up to Jen to protect them from the malevolent Spirit who lives on the mountain. All the while Jen gives the impression that she really wants to belong – the outsider who’s won her way into this circle of friends. Yet she is harboring a dark secret that will force her to choose between her friends and the evil spirits who have ordained her with a special gift.

As the friends party around the fire, Jen recounts the Windigo legend, of a fierce and terrifying creature ten feet tall with fangs that stalks and kills humans, particularly in the remote wilderness. Overnight one of the girls disappears. A search party ensues, and as they frantically explore the wild, what they find affirms that they are being hunted – but by who, or by what, they are unsure. Each of the friends will be forced to face their own demonds or one by one, they will fall victims to the Spirits.

L'artiste ojibway Jennifer Morrisseau est la prochaine grande chose dans le monde de l'art contemporain, mais Jen, 21 ans, est plus intéressée à s'évader pour un week-end enneigé dans les montagnes dans l'ancienne cabane de chasse de son oncle avec son groupe d'amis soudés: la riche mondaine Nicole Riley, protégé de physique quantique Duncan Mawhinney, Joe et Kim Dawson, descendants de l'ancien ministre des Affaires indiennes et Benjamin Ratner, fils d'un magnat de l'immobilier.

Le groupe part chez Jen, pas loin d’une piste de ski abandonnée. Sur le chemin, ils tombent sur une carcasse d'animal inversé. Ils sentent immédiatement qu'ils sont surveillés. Ce qu'ils ne savent pas, c'est qu'ils sont arrivés à un endroit chargé spirituellement et c'est à Jen de les protéger de l'Esprit malveillant qui vit sur la montagne. Pendant tout ce temps, Jen donne l'impression qu'elle veut vraiment appartenir - l'outsider qui s'est imposé dans ce cercle d'amis. Pourtant, elle recèle un sombre secret qui la forcera à choisir entre ses amis et les mauvais esprits qui l'ont ordonnée avec un cadeau spécial.

Alors que les amis font la fête autour du feu, Jen raconte la légende de Windigo, d'une créature féroce et terrifiante de dix pieds de haut avec des crocs qui traque et tue les humains, en particulier dans le désert éloigné. Du jour au lendemain, une des filles disparaît. Une équipe de recherche s'ensuit et alors qu'ils explorent frénétiquement la nature, ce qu'ils trouvent confirme qu'ils sont chassés - mais par qui ou par quoi, ils ne sont pas sûrs. Chacun des amis sera obligé d'affronter ses propres démons ou un par un, ils seront victimes des Esprits.
